Il Palio di SAM recalls the warm summer days of magnificent historic Italian pageants where piazza’s are brimming with roving entertainers, the haunting sounds of the opera’s sweet voices, electrifying energies of the sensual Tarantella and the mouth-watering scents of rich Chianti, Montacella lemons, oak-aged balsamic and pungent garlic simmering in fragrant olive oils.
Your senses will be popping as you encounter entertainers, music, dance, food, live and silent auctions and learn about Italy’s finest famous horse and car races, Il Palio di Siena and Mille Miglia. and support SAM in its effort to fund SAM’s Garage – the place where children learn about cars while gearing up for life.
In 2010, SAM served 500 children in Saratoga County. However, many more children in the larger Adirondack/Capital region still need us. Our goal by 2012 is to triple that number and give us a solid base on which to build. Programs at SAM’s Garage encourage non-traditional, multi-generational learning opportunities for at-risk children many of whom have never before experienced a museum visit let alone seen or touched an historic automobile! By supporting Il Palio di SAM attendees are helping SAM give children of all ages increased literacy in math, science, and history, improved opportunities for staying in school, stronger leadership skills, and the potential for successful assimilation into healthy community relationships.
SAM expends between five and ten dollars per student per visit for buses, insurance, materials, staff coordination, volunteer instructors, etc. Thus, every dollar of your sponsorship truly helps and as always, a portion of your contribution is tax deductible.
