The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance has donated a portion of its proceeds to several very deserving organizations in the Jacksonville/North Florida area. In particular Community Hospice of Northeast Florida."

Boy Scouts of America Pinewood Derby!

This past Saturday marked the first official Boy Scouts of America Pinewood Derby race at the Auto Museum. It was a district wide race so any scout in the Twin Rivers Council could participate (a second track was set up for non-scouts and siblings).

The event was a tremendous success as we had over 50 racers on hand throughout the day. We are hopeful to be host to next year's race, so till then, here are a few pictures from Saturday.

“Design Your Ride”: 2/2/2013, 10am – 12pm

SAM’s Garage will be offering a very special art/design workshop where children get the opportunity to design their own car using different artistic mediums. By utilizing the “Scholastic; Design My Ride” kit, Museum Art Director Brandon Salls and Education Director Seth Warden will guide students through their very own design process!

*Limited to the first 20 children (ages 6-13) to sign up.

NYSCCA 2013 HALL OF FAME

One of the highlights of the year at the Saratoga Automobile Museum is the annual induction ceremony for the New York State Stock Car Association’s Hall of Fame, as NYSSCA’s permanent HoF exhibit is a major feature of the museum’s Racing in New York gallery. This year’s ceremony will be held on Saturday, January 26^th at 11 am and will honor a half-dozen inductees.

Have you ever heard of Ab Jenkins? If you haven't, he is a man who set out to single-handedly break every existing land speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah. More than a century later, many of his records remain unbroken. This video will soon be running in our Orentation Theater!

LOST SPEEDWAYS

Astor Cup Race ad on September 24th, 1916 at The Sheepshead Speedway. The track doesn't exist today and has become one of the many "Lost Speedways". In honor of all the lost, but not forgotten speedways, we are hosting "LOST SPEEDWAYS" November 24, 2012 at the Saratoga Automobile Museum.

2013 Race Car

After reading this article on the new 2013 race car that NASCAR has developed for next season's Sprint Cup Series, I am amazed to see the evolution of this sport continue! Our exhibit features cars from the beginning of NASCAR to now...but not really "now" as we are seeing yet another race car design!
