Most adults enjoy a juicy burger washed down with an ice cold beer. While the combination is a summer staple, it is also a great meal on a cold, dark winter night, when the food and drink help to combat “cabin fever” by turning ones thoughts to warm summer nights and outdoor activities, including barbecues.
And like regional craft beer and gourmet beef burger, bbq chicken slider, we'll have a tasty pork slider and a really nice vegetarian eggplant burger. You ticket purchase goes to help support SAMs Education Programs. We have the recipe for a blockbuster event, the Saratoga Automobile Museum’s fourth-annual Beer and Burgers night.
Set for Saturday, March 9th from 6-9 pm, the perennially sold-out event will support a pair of educational programs in 2013. The museum’s Defensive Driving program will be for older teens and adults while the Amphicar Chronicles, a basic engineering and restoration program focusing on the museum’s unique highway and waterway car, will be for students. The popular Amphicar was donated to SAM a few years ago by ardent Saratoga arts and museum supporter Mary Lou Whitney and is part of SAM’s permanent collection.
Beer and Burgers traditionally features the Albany Roller derby girls as “car hop” servers but for 2013, male derby stars will join in the fun as well. The speedy skaters will be serving both gourmet burgers and a vegetarian option to be enjoyed along with the variety of regional beers.
The food and beverage can be enjoyed while perusing the auto museum’s pair of recently opened Golub Gallery exhibits. “518 Supercars” offers a variety of Ferrari’s, Zagato’s and other exotic road cars from the 518 area code, while “Cannonball: Brock Yates and the Race That Shook the World” features vehicles from the personal collection of the well known Car and Driver columnist and creator of the wild and wacky Cannonball coast to coast race.
The evening will also provide participants the opportunity to check out the “Racing in New York” gallery, which now features a cutaway of the Penske Racing #2 Miller Lite Dodge and the 2012 additions to the popular New York State Stock car Association Hall of Fame exhibit.
Reservations for Beer and Burgers, at $35 per person, may be made by calling the auto museum at 518-587-1935. More information on the defensive driving and Amphicar programs can be found online at www.saratogaautomuseum.org.
